Ms. Pilgrim was a Texas middle school band director prior to becoming a Mom. After choosing to homeschool her children, she realized there were limited opportunities for homeschool students to access fine arts training that would prepare them for a lifetime of music.
The joy and accomplishment of mastering a musical instrument is tremendous. It is a gift that will follow the student forever. Accomplishing this with other students in an ensemble is priceless! Thus CCHFA was born…in her living room!
The first class of 14 beginners met in her living room/music studio on January 14, 2016, and performed their first concert in June 2016. CCHFA grew very quickly and it was soon clear that a new rehearsal space was needed. A new space was found for the first full school year (2016-2017) and we had our first Concert Band! The second year of beginners continued to meet at Ms. Pilgrim’s home while Concert Band began meeting at the Church Street Auditorium Bldg.
Our second year (2017-2018) moved all of our classes to the Church Street Auditorium Building. In Spring 2018 the Concert Band attended its first festival at Sandy Lake. They earned a 1st division rating. We were thrilled! 2018-2019 gave us our second 1st Division at Concert Contest. We were well on our way!
2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years have had numerous challenges. However, our students and teachers have met every challenge with creativity and innovation. The future looks bright because there is nothing we cannot conquer together!
Currently, CCHFA offers a full band curriculum including Beginning Band, Pep Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band 1 and 2. Additionally, CCHFA has Beginning Orchestra and Intermediate Orchestra classes.
Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is coming soon!
